Salma Hayek Welcomes a New Role: Grandma

Salma Hayek has a new title to add to her impressive list: grandmother.

The actress recently celebrated the arrival of her first grandchild, a baby boy born to her stepson, François Pinault Jr., and his wife, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck.

Hayek shared her joy on Instagram on Sunday, posting a video of herself holding the newborn. In the sweet clip, she talks to the baby as he appears to respond with a little laugh.

“We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois,” Hayek wrote in the caption. She added that she plans to call the baby “Panchito,” saying he “seems to love it.”

The new parents have also been sharing moments from their first weeks with their son. Henckel von Donnersmarck, 23, posted a series of photos showing herself with the baby, as well as Pinault Jr., 38, helping with feeding and diaper changes.

“My husband (the world’s coolest françois) … and our son (the world’s cutest françois) … our first month as parents,” she wrote.

The couple has kept details of their relationship relatively private. Henckel von Donnersmarck announced their engagement in March after about a year of dating. It is unclear when they officially married.

For Hayek, the arrival of her grandson adds another generation to a large family. She married French businessman François-Henri Pinault, 64, in 2009, and they have an 18-year-old daughter, Valentina. Pinault also has two other children, Mathilde, 25, and Augustin, 19, from previous relationships.

Hayek has previously spoken openly about her desire to have a larger family. In a 2017 interview with Red magazine, she said she had always wanted several children but was unable to have more.

“I’ve had that yearning, that longing, and that pain,” she said. “I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to. My body, as a miracle, had one.”

She also described her husband’s children as an important part of her family, saying, “The huge blessing I’ve had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different.”

Now, Hayek is entering another chapter of family life — and judging by her Instagram post, she is already completely smitten with her grandson.
