In a statement published on Hilton’s website on Aug. 6, the family said they quickly took the children out of the house when it became clear he was in crisis. They said their main focus is helping the children recover and asked the media and paparazzi to respect the family’s privacy.
Authorities responded to the home after receiving a report of a suicide attempt. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said Hilton was taken to a hospital under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows temporary involuntary mental health evaluation when someone may be a danger to themselves or others. Deputies also confirmed Hilton was alone inside the home when they arrived.
Hilton’s family said on Aug. 5 that he was able to communicate, giving them hope about his recovery. They added they will continue to provide updates through his website when more information is available.
If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of self-harm or suicide, help is available through local crisis services or emergency responders.
