Perez Hilton’s Family Shares New Update on His Recovery After Self-Harm Incident

Perez Hilton is continuing to recover in the hospital after a serious mental health crisis earlier this month.

Hilton, 48, was hospitalized Aug. 4 after appearing to harm himself during a TikTok livestream from his Miami home. Authorities treated him for lacerations and an overdose before taking him to the hospital under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows people considered a danger to themselves or others to be held for evaluation.

His brother-in-law, Tom, said Monday on The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker that Hilton suffered significant blood loss, broken bones and other injuries and required surgery. Hilton had also recently battled a life-threatening case of sepsis before moving to Miami.

Tom said Hilton has now moved from treatment for his physical injuries toward mental health care. Doctors have not determined what caused what Tom described as a “mental break,” and he said there is no confirmed diagnosis of sepsis psychosis.

Hilton is currently “lucid,” Tom said, but his family has avoided discussing the incident in detail to prevent triggering anxiety. Hilton has no electronics in his hospital room and makes calls to relatives from the nurse’s station. He has not seen his three children since the incident because they are not allowed in the treatment area.

Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, was granted temporary custody of the children on Aug. 18. Hilton was granted supervised visitation, with psychiatric clearance required before he can see them, according to court documents reported by TMZ.

Tom said Hilton still loves the entertainment industry, but his family is focused on his recovery. There is currently no timeline for when he will complete treatment.
