Lavandeira told Page Six that on Aug. 4, she found her brother, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., in the bathroom after he stopped responding to her. She said she saw him covered in blood after he had repeatedly cut himself while livestreaming on TikTok and making suicidal statements.
She said her first priority was getting Hilton’s three children and her own daughter out of the house. She then called 911 and returned to help her brother, using towels to try to control his bleeding.
“I didn’t recognize my brother when I looked at him,” Lavandeira said, describing the incident as one of the darkest experiences her family has faced. She said she decided to speak publicly to correct rumors and false reports about what happened.
Hilton remained hospitalized in Miami as of Thursday. His mother has also begun legal proceedings to temporarily take custody of his three children.
Lavandeira said Hilton has struggled since the family moved to Miami. Earlier this year, he spent about three weeks in the hospital after complications from taking flu medicine on an empty stomach led to an ulcer, perforation and sepsis, leaving him with significant medical bills.
She also defended her brother against people online who described the incident as “comeuppance,” noting that Hilton has previously apologized for controversial behavior early in his career and publicly acknowledged that some of his actions were harmful.
