Ryan Lochte’s Divorce Drama Deepens as Ex-Wife Accuses His New Partner of Betrayal

Former Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte’s divorce from Kayla Reid has drawn renewed attention to his relationship with Molly Gillihan, a woman Reid once considered a friend.

Reid, 35, says Gillihan began dating Lochte while she was going through their divorce in 2025. She says the relationship felt like a betrayal because Gillihan had previously offered her support and knew about problems in the marriage.

Gillihan disputes that account. She says Lochte contacted her in 2019 while he was still married, but she rejected him. According to Gillihan, they did not speak again until after Lochte was living independently and the divorce process had begun.

Lochte and Gillihan began dating in 2025 and have since moved to Missouri, where Lochte teaches college swimming. He proposed to Gillihan in June, and his divorce from Reid was finalized in July.

Lochte has acknowledged that infidelity and substance abuse contributed to the breakdown of his marriage. He has said he was not ready to be the husband and father his family deserved at the time.

Reid, who has primary custody of the couple’s three children and lives in Florida, says she is now focused on rebuilding her life. Gillihan says she and Lochte are likewise concentrating on their family and future.

Both women say they are ready to leave the conflict behind, although they strongly disagree about how Lochte and Gillihan’s relationship began.
