Phoebe Bridgers Appears to Reflect on Paul Mescal Split in New Album

Phoebe Bridgers appears to revisit her past relationship with actor Paul Mescal on her upcoming album Lost Weekend, due for release on Aug. 14. According to reviews published by The Guardian, the singer seemingly references their rumored engagement on the title track, singing, “I’m supposed to be married but I called it off.”

Another song, “The Governor’s Waltz,” has sparked further speculation, with lyrics that appear to allude to Mescal’s current relationship with singer Gracie Abrams: “She can pretend to be me / Since she took my place in my bed, on that stage.”

Bridgers and Mescal, who were first linked in 2020 and made their relationship public in 2021, are believed to have split in late 2022. Mescal has consistently declined to discuss the breakup, saying he prefers to keep his personal life private.

Mescal is now linked to Abrams, while Bridgers is widely believed to be dating comedian Bo Burnham, though neither has publicly confirmed the relationship.
