Reese Witherspoon Remembers Dolly Parton: ‘I Miss You Already’

Reese Witherspoon is remembering Dolly Parton following the country music icon’s death at age 80 on Aug. 25.

Witherspoon said she was “lucky” to call Parton a friend. She recalled how Parton helped her prepare to play June Carter in the 2005 film “Walk the Line.” Parton took Witherspoon to dinner and shared stories about Carter, giving the actress confidence in her Oscar-winning performance.

The two remained in touch over the years. Witherspoon said Parton often sent her notes of encouragement, urging her to “be the light in people’s lives” and listen to her angels. Parton signed the notes, “I will always love you,” referencing her famous song.

In a 2018 interview, Witherspoon became emotional while telling Parton that she had always wanted to be more like her. Parton replied, “Don’t be like me, be like you.”

Witherspoon said Parton’s positivity, warmth and kindness inspired millions. “Dolly, I miss you already,” she wrote. “Your talent, your wisdom and your beautiful spirit lit up our lives.”

Parton’s death was confirmed by her nephew, Bryan Seaver. Her representatives said she had experienced a brief battle with cancer. She had also been dealing with kidney and autoimmune health issues.

Parton’s representatives said the singer spent her life bringing “joy, laughter, hope and integrity” to others and helping countless people through her generosity.
