The 52-year-old musician discussed his autism diagnosis during a Q&A for the Autumn/Winter launch of his clothing brand Hopeium at Flannels, according to a Thursday, Aug. 13 report by the Daily Mail. Williams described the diagnosis as a “get-out-of-jail-free card” and said he continues to experience intrusive thoughts.
Williams said he uses his creativity as a coping mechanism, particularly when dealing with anxiety and intrusive thoughts. He explained that his ADHD allows him to focus intensely on creative projects while making it difficult to concentrate on other tasks.
In October 2025, Williams revealed that he had Tourette syndrome during an episode of the podcast I’m ADHD! No You’re Not. He said his symptoms often manifest as intrusive thoughts rather than visible tics.
Williams had previously said he believed he might be autistic but received a negative result from an online test. He described experiencing autistic traits related to social interaction and said he hoped a formal diagnosis would help him better understand his longstanding discomfort in social situations.
The singer has spoken publicly about his mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions throughout his career, including the impact of anxiety and intrusive thoughts on his daily life.
