Rumer Willis Opens Up About Taking Control of Her Health After Father’s Dementia Diagnosis

Rumer Willis is taking a proactive approach to her health, particularly after her father, Bruce Willis, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

The 38-year-old actress told PEOPLE that she partnered with Function, a health membership company offering more than 160 lab tests, imaging services and health assessments. She said she was especially interested in the company’s APOE genetic test, which can provide information about a person’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Willis acknowledged that learning about genetic risks can be frightening, especially because her family has a history of dementia and breast cancer. But she believes having more health information can help people take preventive steps.

She said she focuses on areas including brain, gut and reproductive health. Her efforts include taking supplements, avoiding perfumes and cooking more meals at home rather than relying on takeout.

Willis said these small changes are important not only for her own health but also so she can remain healthy and present for her daughter for as long as possible.
