Speaking on the “SmartLess” podcast, Bullock said her children, Louis, 16, and Laila, 12, were fully aware of Randall’s illness. She said they noticed both his physical decline and changes in the family’s behavior as the disease progressed.
Bullock explained that her children responded differently. Louis, who was older, chose to support his mother but recognized that being closely involved was not healthy for him. Bullock said she wanted him to remain a child rather than feel responsible for the family.
Laila remained closer to Randall for longer but eventually asked Bullock not to make her visit when she did not want to. Bullock said she respected that choice and reassured her daughter that she would be there if she wanted to visit or needed to leave.
Randall, a former model and photographer, began dating Bullock in 2015. He died in August 2023 after a private three-year battle with ALS.
After his death, Bullock took time away from work to focus on healing and caring for her children before returning to acting.
