In a recent career-spanning interview for the Recording Academy’s Icon Sessions, Swift said she tells herself, “You chose this,” when public attention becomes overwhelming. She said the challenges are worth it as long as she can continue creating music.
Swift also said she does not make music to gain universal approval. Instead, she focuses on her fans and on creating songs that reflect emotional truths and help people cope with their own lives.
Her comments come after a major career milestone. In June, Swift was inducted into the 2026 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame alongside artists including Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins and members of KISS.
During her induction speech, Swift said songwriting was the one part of her career that came naturally. She explained that she had to learn many other aspects of performing and working in the music industry, but songwriting was something she discovered on her own.
For Swift, that connection to songwriting remains central to her career and her ability to handle the pressures that come with fame.
