In the film, Peter Parker visits Yelena at her Russian bathhouse "office" to gather information about a mysterious mind-controlling villain. Before helping him, Yelena asks Spider-Man to strip to prove he isn't hiding any weapons, leaving Peter in only his mask and underwear.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Holland revealed he tried dehydrating himself before filming to look more defined, but said the effort only made him "really grumpy" and had little effect. He also joked that filming the scene without co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon made it less awkward since everyone was in their underwear.
The scene has drawn comparisons to Marvel's Spider-Man video games, where players can unlock an outfit featuring Spider-Man wearing only his mask and underwear. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said the movie includes several shots inspired by the games, though he did not confirm whether the scene was a direct reference.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows Peter Parker as he struggles to rebuild his life after the world forgets his identity. The film stars Tom Holland, Florence Pugh, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. The movie is now playing in theaters.
