Tate McRae addresses rumors about her political views

Singer Tate McRae says she prefers to show her values through her actions rather than respond to speculation about her political beliefs.

In an interview with Variety published Aug. 3, the 23-year-old said she supports causes through the organizations she works with and the environment she creates on tour. She pointed to merchandise that benefits The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention and crisis intervention nonprofit.

Questions about McRae's politics grew after she collaborated with country singer Morgan Wallen on the 2025 song "What I Want." Some critics linked Wallen to conservative politics, although he has not publicly confirmed his political views. McRae previously told Rolling Stone she chose the collaboration because she wanted to explore country music and was surprised by the political reaction.

More speculation followed after McRae was linked to NHL player Jack Hughes. Hughes faced criticism after laughing during a congratulatory phone call from President Donald Trump following Team USA's men's hockey victory in February. Hughes later said he has "so much respect" for the women's hockey team after Trump made a joke about them during the call.

McRae also told Variety she keeps her personal relationships private and focuses on maintaining a positive, supportive circle rather than responding to public speculation.
