Tramell Tillman Reveals Secretive ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Role

Tramell Tillman has revealed details about his role in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” after months of keeping the character secret.

The “Severance” star plays Bill Metzger, a government official who leads Damage Control, the agency responsible for dealing with destruction caused by superheroes. Tillman said he had to sign strict nondisclosure agreements and knew little about the role when director Destin Daniel Cretton first approached him.

“It was a little frustrating, because everything was shrouded in secrecy,” Tillman told GQ. He said accepting the part was largely a “leap of faith.”

Tillman worked with Cretton and writer Justin Kuritzkes to develop Metzger as a corporate executive and politician whose true motives remain unclear. His main goal, Tillman said, is protecting his employees, the city and the world from new threats.

For the character’s calm and confident manner, Tillman drew inspiration from former President Barack Obama, describing Metzger as having “a little bit of swag” and smoothness.

Tillman has become increasingly prominent in recent years. He appeared in “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and won an Emmy for his role as Mr. Milchick in “Severance.” He is also set to appear in Lena Dunham’s upcoming film “Good Sex.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is now in theaters.
