Tyler Duckworth, Two-Time ‘The Challenge’ Champion, Dies at 44

Tyler Duckworth, a two-time champion of MTV’s The Challenge, has died at age 44. His mother, Joni, confirmed his death on social media Thursday. She said the cause of death had not yet been determined.

Duckworth first appeared on reality television in 2006 on The Real World: Key West. That same year, he joined The Challenge and later won two seasons: Cutthroat in 2010 and Rivals in 2011.

After a 10-year break from the show, Duckworth returned for The Challenge: All Stars 2 in 2021 and competed again on All Stars 3 the following year. He said he was thrilled to return and hoped to make the most of the opportunity.

During his time away from the series, Duckworth worked as a teacher. He was also an important LGBTQ+ figure on The Challenge, becoming one of the show's few openly gay champions. He spoke publicly about the pressure he felt to represent the gay community while competing.

Duckworth remained connected to the franchise until recently. Last month, he attended Challenge Mania in Minneapolis, where he celebrated his hometown and met with fans and other former competitors.

His mother said the family will share information about funeral services once arrangements are finalized.
