Will Forte Thanks Fans as ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Reaches Theaters

After years of uncertainty, Coyote vs. Acme has finally reached the big screen. The film held its Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, ahead of its theatrical release Friday.

Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the movie in November 2023 as part of a tax write-off, prompting fans to campaign online for its release. Their efforts eventually paid off when Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film in March 2025 and arranged a summer 2026 theatrical release.

Star Will Forte described the experience as an “emotional roller coaster.” He said he initially believed the fan campaign would not change the studio’s decision, but later credited the fans with helping bring the movie to theaters.

“I had given up on it and I can’t thank these people enough,” Forte said. He also said the film’s strong reviews have been especially meaningful after such a difficult journey.

Directed by Dave Green, Coyote vs. Acme combines live action and animation. The story follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes Acme Corporation to court after its products repeatedly fail while he tries to catch the Road Runner. Forte plays his lawyer, while John Cena plays Acme’s attorney.

Green also thanked the fans who supported the film, including one who famously protested outside Warner Bros. in the rain after its cancellation. At the premiere, a costumed Wile E. Coyote appeared with the UCLA marching band carrying signs thanking the supporters.

Neither Forte nor Green is currently discussing a sequel. For now, the filmmakers are focused on giving the long-delayed movie its chance in theaters.

Coyote vs. Acme opens in theaters Friday.
