Music Producer and Grammy Winner William Orbit Passes Away at 69

Grammy-winning musician and producer William Orbit, best known for shaping landmark albums by Madonna, Blur and All Saints, has died at the age of 69.

Orbit died at his home on July 23, 2026, his family confirmed in a statement shared on his Instagram account. No cause of death was disclosed.

A pioneering producer, songwriter and remixer, Orbit played a pivotal role in Madonna's critically acclaimed 1998 album Ray of Light, earning three Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Album and Best Dance Recording. He also worked on acclaimed projects by Blur, Beth Orton, Britney Spears, U2, No Doubt and Melanie C.

Born William Mark Wainwright in London's East End in 1956, Orbit began his musical journey as a teenager before forming the electronic group Torch Song in 1980. He later established Guerilla Studios and Guerilla Records, building a reputation as one of Britain's most influential producers.

Alongside his production work, Orbit released several solo albums, most recently The Painter (2022) and WFO (2024). His innovative sound and lasting influence on electronic and pop music leave behind a remarkable legacy.
