Beyoncé’s $948 Vinyl Box Sparks Shock and Jokes From Fans

Beyoncé’s latest piece of merchandise has left some of her fans scratching their heads over the price.

The Grammy-winning superstar is selling a limited-edition Bey Keeper Collector’s Box for $948.01. Only 500 boxes are available, but there is one catch that has quickly become the biggest talking point: the vinyl records are not included.

The unusual price is a reference to Beyoncé’s birthday, September 4, 1981. The singer turned 45 on Friday as fans also celebrated the 20th anniversary of her second solo album, B’Day.

The collector’s box measures 18 by 14 inches and is made from pine wood. According to the product description, it is lined with deep green velvet and was designed to store and display Beyoncé’s vinyl collection.

The box takes inspiration from traditional beekeeper crates, fitting with Beyoncé’s long-running connection to bees and the “Beyhive.” It also features custom engraved details, a faux alligator-skin leather carrying strap and gold hardware.

But fans who were hoping to fill the box with records will have to buy those separately.

And the final bill is even higher than the $948.01 sticker price. With estimated shipping of $60.50 and about $103.38 in taxes, the total comes to roughly $1,111.89.

That price has sparked plenty of reactions online.

Some fans called the merchandise “absurd” and questioned why an empty wooden box costs nearly $1,000. One person joked that it looked like a “coffin for a hamster,” while another suggested Beyoncé might simply be “clearing out her storage units.”

Another fan questioned the choice of materials, writing that pine wood is inexpensive and suggesting the box could be made for a fraction of the retail price.

Others felt the price might make more sense if vinyl records were included.

Still, not everyone was ready to criticize the purchase. Some fans defended Beyoncé and said they would buy what they wanted, while others speculated that the box could contain hidden surprises or “Easter eggs” that had not yet been revealed.

Beyoncé has released an extensive catalog over the years. During her time with Destiny’s Child, she appeared on 13 records, including studio, compilation and remix albums. As a solo artist, she has released dozens more projects spanning studio albums, live albums, compilations, soundtracks and EPs.

For serious collectors, a limited-edition box designed specifically to display that catalog may have some appeal.

For everyone else, however, spending more than $1,100 on an empty box may be a much harder sell.

For now, the Bey Keeper Collector’s Box has become less about storing Beyoncé’s records and more about one question dominating the Beyhive: Is a fancy box really worth nearly $1,000?
