Brian Austin Green Opens Up About Changes in Men’s Sex Drive With Age

Actor Brian Austin Green has opened up about changes in male sex drive as men grow older, saying a decline in sexual desire is a natural part of aging.

During Saturday’s episode of the I Do, Pt. 2 podcast, Green, best known for Beverly Hills, 90210, responded to a listener who asked whether men experience a lower sex drive after 50.

“Sure. Absolutely. Of course,” Green said, attributing the change largely to declining testosterone levels. He added that some men may use supplements or other approaches to address the change, but said he believes a reduced sex drive is difficult to avoid with age.

Green was joined on the episode by Bob Guiney, an early and frequent star of the Bachelor franchise. Guiney noted that younger men often think extensively about sex, while aging brings increased responsibilities and other priorities.

Research generally supports a connection between aging and declining sexual desire in men. A 2007 study involving 2,341 men and women in Germany found that sexual desire declined with age, although men generally reported stronger and more frequent sexual desire than women.

More recent research, however, suggests that age alone does not determine male sex drive. A 2022 study found that factors including sexual orientation, relationship status and perceptions of masculinity can significantly influence sexual desire.

Family responsibilities may also play a role. Green is the father of five sons: one with ex-fiancée Vanessa Marcil, three with ex-wife Megan Fox, and one with his current fiancée, Sharna Burgess. Green and Burgess became engaged in 2023.
