Bruce Campbell Says He Has a Five-Year Cancer Prognosis

“Evil Dead” star Bruce Campbell has opened up about his cancer diagnosis, revealing that doctors have given him a five-year prognosis.

Campbell, 68, discussed his health during an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show in an episode released Wednesday. The actor said he has a type of cancer that he does not want to publicly identify and described his condition as treatable, but not curable.

“I’m in a five-year prognosis,” Campbell said. “With the type of cancer that I have, which I don’t want to get into, the current thing is a five-year deal.”

When host Adam Carolla asked whether that meant doctors expected him to have about five years to live, Campbell replied, “Give or take.”

Despite the difficult news, Campbell said he is trying to remain hopeful. He pointed out that cancer treatments could improve significantly over the next several years and said he does not want to spend his time constantly thinking about his illness.

“I’ve decided though pretty specifically though to live with it, not die from it,” Campbell said.

The actor first revealed his cancer diagnosis in March. At the time, he told fans that treatment would have to become his priority and that some of his professional commitments would need to take a back seat.

“I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change — appearances and cons and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment,” Campbell wrote on X.

Campbell also said that his goal was to focus on his health during the summer so he could return to work in the fall to promote his new film, Ernie & Emma.

The movie follows Ernie, a widower played by Campbell, who sets out to scatter the ashes of his late wife, Emma, according to her final wishes. Robin McAlpine plays Emma.

Campbell acknowledged the unusual timing of making a film about grief while dealing with his own serious health battle.

“It’s a very fascinating timing of having a movie about a guy who’s spreading his wife’s ashes who died made by a guy who’s dying,” he said.

Known for his roles in the Evil Dead franchise and Burn Notice, Campbell has remained active in film and television for decades. While he has chosen not to disclose the specific type of cancer he has, his latest comments show that he intends to keep working and living as fully as possible while undergoing treatment.
