14 Fans Hospitalized After Chainsmokers Concert in San Jose

Fourteen people were taken to local hospitals after a Chainsmokers concert in San Jose on Friday, Sept. 4, following a series of medical emergencies at the packed venue.

The San Jose Fire Department said it received several calls for help during the duo’s performance at Discovery Meadows, a venue with a capacity of about 26,000 people. Officials said multiple concertgoers needed medical attention.

To handle the situation, the fire department sent an Ambulance Task Force, two additional advanced life support fire units and a battalion chief to the scene. In total, 14 ambulances responded, and 14 patients were transported to local hospitals.

According to NBC Bay Area, which cited police, some of the patients were suffering from suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues. ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported that at least 10 people were taken to the hospital during the final 30 minutes of the concert, while several others were treated at the venue.

No deaths were reported.

Authorities have not said whether anyone was arrested in connection with the incidents. Officials also have not provided further details about the conditions of those hospitalized.

The Chainsmokers, made up of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, have not publicly commented on the medical emergencies. The group’s official social media accounts also did not address the incident. In the days afterward, however, the duo continued to share updates, including footage from their Saturday performance at the Encore Beach Club at Wynn Las Vegas.

The Chainsmokers became widely known in 2014 with their breakout song “#Selfie.” They later built a string of international hits, including “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Paris,” “Something Just Like This” and “Closer,” featuring Halsey.

The duo has also won a Grammy Award and two American Music Awards, becoming one of the most recognizable electronic-pop acts of the past decade.
