Kelley, 44, posted a selfie with his wife, Cassie McConnell, on Instagram Monday, Aug. 31, followed by an older photo from when he was struggling with alcohol addiction.
“My best filter is just…not drinking,” Kelley wrote in the caption. He said the older image reminds him of “a place I don’t wanna go back to” and highlighted the many blessings he has experienced since becoming sober.
Country artists including Ruston Kelly, Shane McAnally and Russell Dickerson offered messages of support in the comments.
Kelley has previously credited McConnell, whom he married in 2009, as his main motivation for getting sober. Lady A postponed its 2022 Request Line Tour after Kelley entered a rehabilitation facility in Utah for alcohol addiction treatment.
In a 2025 interview with PEOPLE, Kelley said his wife’s support played a central role in his recovery. He also drew inspiration from his sobriety for his 2025 solo album, Songs for a New Moon.
The record blends Kelley’s country roots with 1980s-inspired synth sounds and explores his recovery and renewed outlook on life. He described the project as a “happy record” inspired by what he sees as a “second chance at life.”
