Gal Gadot Says Family Commitments Could Keep Her From Returning as Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot says she is unlikely to return as Wonder Woman, even if an opportunity arises to make a third film in the franchise.

Speaking on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Gadot said raising her four children and managing their school schedules would make it difficult to commit to another lengthy superhero production.

“For me to go to do another Wonder Woman, I am not sure I would at this point in my life with four children and different schools and all of that,” Gadot told host Josh Horowitz.

Gadot first played Wonder Woman in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” before starring in Patty Jenkins’ 2017 “Wonder Woman,” which earned about $824 million worldwide. She later reprised the role in “Justice League” and “Wonder Woman 1984.”

A third film was being developed by Jenkins before James Gunn and Peter Safran took control of DC Studios. The project ultimately did not move forward with Gadot, despite earlier comments from the actor suggesting a sequel could be part of the new DC Universe.

Reflecting on the transition, Gadot said she was grateful for her time as the character and hoped the role would continue with another actor.

“I am so grateful I got the opportunity to wear these boots and have the character be so celebrated,” she said. “This character means so much to so many of us. It was never mine. I was always just a vessel.”

Gadot also discussed her upcoming film “Bitcoin,” directed by Doug Liman and co-starring Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson and Isla Fisher. The production has attracted attention for its use of artificial intelligence to create sets and lighting.

Gadot said she spent six months negotiating protections for her performance and did not want AI used to alter or generate her acting. She said the safeguards were extensive enough that SAG representatives contacted her lawyers for guidance on protecting other performers.

“I am afraid of AI, but I am going to be afraid and look away? No,” Gadot said. “I am afraid but I am playing with it and learning it and trying to educate myself.”

The actor said the production allowed the cast to film continuously in a bare warehouse-like space without waiting for conventional lighting and set changes. She compared the experience to theater and said she has yet to see any finished footage.
