Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Under Repair After Vandalism

Repairs are underway on Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after it was vandalized with scratches following the singer’s death.

A spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce confirmed that a fan reported the damage after photos and videos of the star circulated on social media. The scratches reportedly affected Parton’s name on the star.

The Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains the Walk of Fame, began repairs on Sept. 1. Flowers and other items that fans had placed around the star were removed Monday ahead of the work.

“The star repairs are currently ongoing,” the Chamber spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly. “The star will cure and will be polished on Friday for fans to enjoy.”

The Hollywood Historic Trust also announced that a replacement star is being installed and will be available for public viewing Friday.

Parton’s original star was dedicated in June 1984 at 6712 Hollywood Blvd., during the same ceremony as Sylvester Stallone’s. The two were promoting their film Rhinestone at the time.

Parton later received a second Walk of Fame star in 2018 alongside Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt for their album Trio. She became the first woman in the 21st century to receive two stars.

Parton died Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. She was buried privately in Nashville several days later, in accordance with her wishes.

Her family has asked that people make donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library instead of sending flowers.
