Gal Gadot Says AI Was a Major Focus of ‘Bitcoin’ Contract Negotiations

Gal Gadot says she spent six months negotiating strict protections against the use of artificial intelligence in her upcoming film Bitcoin, directed by Doug Liman.

Speaking on Happy Sad Confused, the Wonder Woman star said she did not want AI involved in her performance. Her lawyers reviewed possible scenarios before reaching an agreement with the film’s producers.

“I did not want AI to have anything to do with my performance,” Gadot said. “As far as the performances, it’s all me.”

Gadot said the negotiations were so detailed that SAG contacted her lawyers for guidance on updating its contract protections for other actors.

While AI was not used for her acting, the technology was used to create locations and lighting for the film. Producer Ryan Kavanaugh previously said the movie would use performance-capture AI but would not create AI-generated actors. A source also said AI could potentially be used to make adjustments to performances without requiring reshoots.

Gadot said she is concerned about AI but believes actors and filmmakers need to understand the technology rather than ignore it.

“I’m afraid and I’m playing with it and I’m learning it,” she said.

The actress also described the film’s production as unusual. Much of it was filmed on a bare soundstage, which she said made the experience feel like theater and allowed the cast to focus entirely on performance.

Gadot said the production could run for 10 hours without the usual scene resets because of the way the film was made. She has not yet seen any finished footage.

“It’s a crazy film, just like Bitcoin,” Gadot said. “And I think that the whole idea was to keep it crazy.”
