Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot recalled traveling to London for the screen test. She said the intense session involved extensive filming and preparation, lasting about four hours.
“I came there with all layers; it was a cold winter day in London. I came out in a tank top,” Gadot said, describing the demanding audition process.
Gadot said she felt confident about her performance and was surprised when she did not get the role. The part ultimately went to Charlize Theron, who starred opposite Tom Hardy in the critically acclaimed action film.
Gadot praised Hiddleston, saying he was “such an incredible actor” and that their audition work together felt very strong. She added that Miller ultimately had a specific vision for the film that did not include either of them.
Mad Max: Fury Road went on to win six Academy Awards at the 2016 Oscars. Gadot later found major success as Wonder Woman, making her debut as the DC superhero in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before starring in the 2017 film Wonder Woman.
In recent years, Gadot has also faced criticism over her acting and her background as an Israeli military combat trainer. Her role as the Evil Queen in Disney’s 2025 live-action Snow White was also met with controversy.
Gadot later addressed criticism surrounding the film, saying she believed opposition to Israel had contributed to personal attacks against her. She clarified on Instagram that some critics viewed her primarily as an Israeli rather than as an actress.
