Gadot discussed her connection with Cruise during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. The two actors worked together on the 2010 film Knight and Day, but Gadot said her role was small and she spent only one night working with Cruise.
When Shepard asked whether she had received Cruise’s annual holiday cake, Gadot was surprised by the question.
“What cake? He makes cakes?” she asked.
Shepard explained that Cruise regularly sends the White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake from Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills, California, to people he has worked with. Past recipients reportedly include Tom Hanks, Glen Powell, Jay Ellis and Tramell Tillman.
Gadot joked that she was apparently not close enough to Cruise to make the cake list.
“Well, I worked with him for one night,” she said. “Tom, it’s fine. It’s okay. I can take it.”
She added that she does not particularly like cake and prefers chocolate.
Despite their brief collaboration, Gadot spoke warmly about Cruise and recalled being impressed by his professionalism and curiosity. She said he took an interest in her family and heritage, including her grandfather, who survived the Holocaust.
Years later, after Gadot had become widely known for Wonder Woman, she said she encountered Cruise again at his home. She was surprised that he remembered her and, more importantly, remembered details about her grandfather.
“He was like, ‘What are you talking about? We did that, we did — how’s your grandfather? Is he still around?’” Gadot recalled.
Gadot also revealed that she has received a holiday treat from her Fast Five co-star Vin Diesel: a large gingerbread house.
