Howard Stern Show Fantasy Football League Comes to an End After Nearly 20 Years

The long-running fantasy football league featured on “The Howard Stern Show” has officially come to an end after nearly two decades.

Comedian Michael Rapaport revealed the news during a recent episode of his podcast, “I Am Rapaport,” saying the popular segment has been quietly canceled.

“It’s done,” Rapaport, 56, told listeners as he reflected on what he called one of the greatest and most famous fantasy football leagues.

“They just can’t do it anymore,” he said.

Rapaport has been closely involved with the league over the years and credited himself with helping turn it into a widely recognized part of the show.

“I took that [league] from the bottom to the top, made it a viral sensation that people ask me about every single day,” he said.

The cancellation comes just as the new NFL season gets underway. The league’s season is set to kick off Wednesday, with fantasy football drafts typically taking place in late August and early September.

Rapaport said the fantasy football segment has now “come to an end,” adding that there has been plenty of discussion surrounding the future of Stern’s show.

The program has undergone major changes in recent months. When the new season begins on September 14, the show is expected to air just once a week and will stream on HBO Max.

Rapaport was careful not to comment on the details of those changes.

“It’s not my place,” he said, adding that he had no information about why the changes were happening or exactly what the new version of the show would look like.

News of the fantasy league’s cancellation quickly sparked reactions online. Some Reddit users expressed disappointment, with one calling it another popular segment that had disappeared.

Others took a more skeptical view, joking that Rapaport may have been told the league was canceled simply so he would no longer be able to participate.

The news is another sign of how much “The Howard Stern Show” has changed in recent months.

Stern faced widespread retirement speculation last year, but he announced in December 2025 that he had signed a new three-year deal with SiriusXM.

“I am happy to announce that I have figured out a way to have it all,” Stern said at the time. “More free time and continuing to be on the radio. Yes, we are coming back.”

Then, in July, reports emerged that around a dozen staff members had been laid off. Stern also ended Channel 101, with the channel being handed over to Andy Cohen’s “Radio Andy.”

Stern has since reached a deal with HBO Max. Under the agreement, episodes of the show will become available to stream on the platform, along with periodic extra content.

For longtime fans, the end of the fantasy football league marks the loss of another familiar piece of the Stern show — one that had become a yearly tradition for football and radio fans alike.
