Jake Reiner Marries Eight Months After Parents’ Deaths

Jake Reiner, the 35-year-old son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, has married Maria Gilfillan, eight months after his parents died.

PEOPLE confirmed that the couple wed in a small ceremony in late August. Reiner was seen wearing a wedding ring during an interview with Los Angeles station ABC7 last week.

In the interview, Reiner spoke about coping with the deaths of his parents and the indictment of his younger brother, Nick Reiner, in their killings.

“Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it,” Jake said. “It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes.”

Jake said his parents continued to support Nick, who had struggled with his mental health.

“My parents had unconditional love for all three of us,” he said, referring to himself, Nick and their sister, Romy. “They never stopped wanting to help him. They never stopped helping him.”

Jake said he learned of his parents’ deaths after Romy called him. He initially did not answer, but became concerned when she called again immediately.

Romy told him she had found their father dead at their home and could not find their mother. Jake said he immediately went into shock.

Earlier this month, Jake and Romy testified before the grand jury that indicted Nick. Nick, 32, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder with special circumstances and is expected to return to court on Sept. 15.

Rob Reiner was also the father of actress Tracy Reiner, whom he shared with his late ex-wife, director Penny Marshall.
