Kaitlin Olson Turns Emmy Loss Into a Joke After Fourth Defeat

Kaitlin Olson is not letting another Emmy loss bring her down. Instead, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star turned the disappointment into a joke.

After attending the 2026 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 6, Olson shared photos from the event on Instagram the next day. Alongside pictures from the red carpet, photos with her husband Rob McElhenney and actress Leslie Bibb, Olson included a funny childhood photo of herself wearing clown makeup.

“The hair, makeup and wardrobe of a four-time Emmy loser,” Olson, 51, joked in her caption. She also thanked the team responsible for her glamorous look.

Olson looked elegant in a strapless white gown at the ceremony. Her playful caption quickly drew supportive reactions from fans, many of whom reminded her that an award does not define her success.

“GORGEOUS!!! 🔥 You won in my mind where I live in a constant state of delusion,” one fan commented.

Another fan wrote that they and their roommate had stayed up late on the East Coast to watch Olson’s category, adding, “You’re the winner in our hearts!!!!!”

A third fan joked, “Y’all are 18-time Emmy winners in our books!”

Olson’s “four-time loser” comment is technically correct. She has received four Emmy nominations during her career. Three came for her guest role as DJ Vance on Hacks, with nominations in 2022, 2024 and 2026. Her first nomination came in 2020 for the short-form comedy Flipped.

At this year’s ceremony, Olson was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks, but the award went to Betty Gilpin for Widow’s Bay.

A Personal Connection to Hacks

Olson’s role on Hacks has become even more meaningful because of what she experienced while making the show’s final season.

During production on the fifth and final season, Olson’s father, Don, became seriously ill after complications from surgery. She continued filming while also traveling to spend time with him as his health declined.

One of Don’s final chances to see his daughter perform came through Hacks. He watched the episode in which Olson’s DJ Vance competes alongside Jean Smart’s Deborah Vance in an elaborate competition inspired by The Amazing Race.

“He loved it,” Olson told Vanity Fair about her father’s reaction to the episode.

Don died in May.

While Olson may still be waiting for her first Emmy win, her lighthearted response shows that she is not allowing another loss to overshadow the work, memories and people that matter most to her.
