Kelly Osbourne Says She Was ‘Scared’ by Her Appearance After Losing Her Father

Kelly Osbourne has opened up about the painful months following the death of her father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, saying she became so thin that she barely recognized herself.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, the 41-year-old former reality TV star said she did not realize how much weight she had lost until she saw a photograph of herself during a clothing fitting ahead of the 2026 Grammy Awards.

“I looked like the f---ing Crypt Keeper,” Kelly said, referring to the frightening character from the horror series Tales from the Crypt.

She said the image shocked her.

“I said, ‘This is scary. I didn’t know I looked like this,’” Kelly recalled. “My spine — you could see every single bone. I couldn’t see what other people saw because I was in so much pain. I just saw a broken person.”

Struggling with grief

Ozzy Osbourne died at age 76. His death certificate, obtained by PEOPLE, listed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and acute myocardial infarction as causes of death. Coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction were also listed as joint causes.

The 2026 Grammy Awards, held in February, featured a tribute to the iconic musician.

Kelly attended the ceremony to support her mother, Sharon Osbourne, and honor her father’s legacy. However, she now believes she may not have been well enough to attend.

“I was scared,” she said. “I wanted to be there to support my mom and to pay tribute to my father’s legacy, [but] I don’t think I should have gone. I wasn’t very well.”

Kelly said she wore a wig at the event because she was uncomfortable with how thin her face had become. Her team also worked to find clothing that would make her appear healthier on the red carpet.

“They knew I was going through something,” she explained. “So, we were trying to find clothes to not make me look skinnier.”

She described her grief as overwhelming, saying the pain affected even her basic sense of hunger.

“You’re filled with so much pain that the feeling of hunger can’t even pop up,” Kelly said.

Protecting her young son

During the difficult period, Kelly said she tried to protect her 3-year-old son, Sidney, from seeing the full extent of her grief. She shares Sidney with her former fiancé, Slipknot musician Sid Wilson.

Kelly said she would try to put on a happy face whenever her son entered the room.

“Whenever he walked in the room, something would come over me, and I’d snap into Miss Fun Mom,” she said. “I didn’t cry in front of him.”

She added that she wanted to make sure her son was not exposed to what she described as “inappropriate sorrow.”

Turning grief into a story

Kelly is now planning a three-part documentary series about her experience with grief and hopes her story can help other people dealing with loss.

“I’m [telling] my story because there’s a lot that people don’t know,” she said.

Reflecting on how deeply her father’s death changed her, Kelly added: “The person I was before my dad died is dead. That person doesn’t exist anymore.”

Her comments offer a candid look at how grief can affect both emotional and physical health, while showing the pressure she felt to remain strong for her family during one of the hardest periods of her life.
