Linda Cardellini Wins Her First Emmy for DTF St. Louis

Linda Cardellini has won her first Emmy Award for her role in HBO’s dark comedy series DTF St. Louis.

Cardellini took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie on Sunday night. Her onscreen husband, David Harbour, was also among the show’s nominees.

“I’m overcome, I’m sorry it’s a little embarrassing, but this has just been an unbelievable journey,” Cardellini said during her emotional acceptance speech. “A real dream come true, and I appreciate it very much.”

The win marks Cardellini’s first Emmy victory after three nominations. She was previously nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Netflix’s Dead to Me and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for AMC’s Mad Men.

Speaking backstage, Cardellini said she felt incredibly fortunate to have reached the moment.

“One of my friends once told me it’s a long life in this business if they’re lucky, and I feel very lucky to be here right now holding this Emmy,” she said.

She also recalled the moment her name was announced, saying her heart was racing as she walked to the stage.

“I just wanted to be able to feel it and look out and see people,” she said, adding that it was special to see so many of her castmates among the nominees.

DTF St. Louis tells the story of three adults caught in a complicated love triangle. Harbour, Cardellini and Jason Bateman play characters dealing with middle-age dissatisfaction, with their lives taking a dark turn when one of them ends up dead.

The series has received 13 nominations at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards and had a strong showing Sunday, winning six awards, including prizes for writing and directing.

Harbour, Bateman and Richard Jenkins were all nominated for Supporting Actor, while Cardellini and Joy Sunday represented the show in the supporting actress category.

This year, the supporting acting awards for limited series were presented during Emmys Night 2, the event formerly known as the Creative Arts Emmys. The ceremony took place ahead of the main Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air on September 14. Cardellini’s acceptance speech was not televised.

DTF St. Louis still has a major prize to compete for next Monday. The series is nominated for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series at the Primetime Emmy ceremony.
