Lionel Richie Expected to Fly Home After St. Louis Hospital Stay

Grammy-winning singer Lionel Richie is undergoing cardiac tests in an intensive care unit in St. Louis and is expected to fly home Wednesday, Sept. 2, according to TMZ.

Richie, 77, checked himself into the ICU as a precaution after performing at The Muny in St. Louis on Saturday, Aug. 29. During the concert, he asked his team to bring him a chair while performing his final song, “All Night Long,” TMZ previously reported.

Doctors are continuing to monitor Richie’s condition. He is currently on his Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. His next scheduled performance is in San Francisco on Sept. 26.

The hospitalization follows another health scare in June. On June 24, Richie cut short a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, after becoming dizzy onstage. He joked about performing “Dancing on the Ceiling” while seated before moving to a piano to perform “Three Times a Lady.”

Richie later postponed two shows on his doctors’ advice to rest and recover. He returned to the stage on June 30 and reassured fans that he was doing well.

In an Instagram post on July 4, Richie thanked fans for their support, writing, “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
