Robert Pattinson Says Returning as Batman Is Physically Tougher

Robert Pattinson is back in Gotham for the sequel to The Batman, but the actor says playing the Dark Knight is becoming more physically demanding.

Pattinson, 40, told GQ that he is filming the sequel in London through the end of the year. “I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot,” he said, adding that the action is “significantly harder” than it was during the first film.

Despite the physical demands, Pattinson said he is enjoying the production and believes the movie will be “pretty great.” He described the shoot as a marathon and praised its cast.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman, released in 2022, followed Bruce Wayne during his second year as Batman as he investigated murders committed by the Riddler, played by Paul Dano. The film also featured Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

Pattinson will return alongside Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Farrell as the Penguin. New cast members include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson in an undisclosed role, and Charles Dance and Sebastian Koch in undisclosed roles.

The sequel has been delayed from its previous October 2027 release date. It is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 18, 2028.

Pattinson also confirmed that he is the rider seen in leaked set photos showing Batman’s street-level alter ego, the Drifter, riding a motorcycle through snowy conditions.

The Batman sequel comes after a busy period for Pattinson, who said he has worked almost nonstop since the actors’ and writers’ strikes. His recent and upcoming projects include Die My Love, The Drama, The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three and Primetime, which he also produced.

After the Batman sequel wraps, Pattinson said he plans to take a vacation.

The actor has also recently developed an interest in watches and was named a global ambassador for Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre. He said he wears one of the brand’s watches in The Batman, continuing a connection between the brand and the franchise after Christian Bale wore Jaeger-LeCoultre watches in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.
