Rumer Willis Seeks Emergency Custody Order to Keep Ex-Partner’s Visits Supervised

Rumer Willis has asked a Los Angeles judge to continue supervised visitation between her former partner, Derek Richard Thomas, and their 3-year-old daughter, Louetta, citing alleged violations of custody orders and concerns about Thomas’ judgment around the child.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Willis filed an emergency request seeking to prevent Thomas from having unmonitored and overnight visits until a scheduled hearing. She alleges that Thomas has repeatedly violated court orders and engaged in behavior that could endanger their daughter.

Thomas’ attorney, Mike Kretzmer, strongly denied the allegations, accusing Willis of making “reckless and demonstrably false” claims in an effort to prevent Thomas from exercising his court-ordered parenting time.

Kretzmer said a previous court order allowed Thomas’ unmonitored overnight visits to begin in late August. He also alleged that Willis moved to Nashville with Louetta without court authorization or Thomas’ permission. Willis disputes that claim, saying the move was made with Thomas’ permission.

The couple has been involved in a custody dispute since July 2025, when Thomas filed for custody and visitation. In a declaration filed Aug. 27, Thomas accused Willis of repeatedly interfering with his relationship with Louetta and preventing him from exercising his visitation rights.

Thomas also denied previous allegations by Willis that he abused drugs or behaved in a way that placed their daughter at risk. Willis had previously sought mandatory drug testing, alleging that Thomas was once so intoxicated on marijuana that he could not safely supervise Louetta.

Under a June 9 custody order, Willis was granted primary physical custody, while Thomas was awarded parenting time every other weekend. Thomas said the order initially required his visits to be supervised for six weeks before transitioning to unmonitored and overnight visitation.

Thomas described several disputes over visitation monitors, including a July incident in which Willis allegedly arrived at his home with police during a scheduled visit. He claimed Willis took Louetta from his care about 40 minutes into the visit, although police reportedly told the parties the matter was civil.

Both sides have accused the other of violating court orders and interfering with their respective rights. The competing claims are expected to be addressed at a court hearing on Sept. 10.
