‘Spider-Noir’ Ends at Prime Video After One Season

Prime Video’s Spider-Noir has reached the end of the road.

The live-action superhero series starring Nicolas Cage as a darker version of Spider-Man will not return for a second season, according to Entertainment Weekly. The show follows Spider-Man Noir, a private detective working in New York during the Great Depression.

Spider-Noir premiered in May and gave viewers a choice between watching it in full color or in a classic black-and-white style inspired by old movies. The series received mostly positive reviews and made a strong impression during awards season, earning 11 Emmy nominations — the most of any Prime Video series this year.

Cage led the cast as the troubled and mysterious Spider-Man Noir. The series also featured Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson.

Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot served as co-showrunners. The series was based on Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir comics, which reimagine the familiar superhero in a darker setting.

The show was also an important first step in a larger partnership between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. The companies have a deal to develop television projects featuring Spider-Man and other characters connected to the franchise.

While Spider-Noir will not continue, another project from the Sony-Amazon deal is reportedly already in development and is expected to be announced soon.

For fans who want to revisit Nicolas Cage’s take on the character, all eight episodes of Spider-Noir remain available to stream on Prime Video.

The series may have ended after just one season, but its 11 Emmy nominations and distinctive take on the Spider-Man mythos have given it a notable place in Prime Video’s superhero lineup.
