Tiger Woods Set for Hearing Over Change of Plea in DUI Case

Tiger Woods is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning in Martin County, Florida, for a hearing related to a “change of plea” in his DUI case, according to newly filed court documents.

Woods previously pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. It remains unclear how he intends to change his plea or whether he has reached a deal with prosecutors.

Woods was arrested March 27 after his Land Rover crashed into a pressure-cleaning truck on South Beach Road on Jupiter Island. Authorities said the SUV was traveling at high speed before striking the truck, which had slowed to turn into a driveway. The vehicle rolled onto its side, and Woods escaped through the passenger door.

An arrest affidavit said deputies found two white pills in Woods’ pocket that were later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid. Woods reportedly told officers he took prescription medication that morning. Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods appeared lethargic and showed signs of impairment.

Woods denied drinking alcohol before the crash, and a breath test registered zero. He later refused to provide a urine sample at the jail, according to the affidavit.

After his arrest, Woods said he was stepping away to seek treatment and focus on his health and recovery.

The golfer also faced a DUI charge in 2017 after police found him asleep in a parked vehicle in Jupiter. Toxicology tests detected painkillers, sleep medication and an active marijuana ingredient, but no alcohol. The DUI charge was later dropped after Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving and sought treatment for prescription medication addiction.
