Doug Ellin Pushes Back Against Debi Mazar’s Claims About ‘Entourage’ Set

Entourage creator Doug Ellin has strongly denied actress Debi Mazar’s claims that the HBO series developed a toxic on-set atmosphere and that she was treated differently after giving birth to her second child.

Mazar, who played publicist Shauna Roberts throughout the series, recently said the show’s set became increasingly difficult after its first season.

“Season one was a joy-fest,” Mazar said. “But in the third season, the set was a testosterone-fuelled environment.” She added that the atmosphere became “toxic” for her and claimed producers did not like that she had gained weight after having her baby, despite eventually losing it.

Ellin rejected the allegation in a post on X, calling the suggestion that he or others on the show discussed Mazar’s body “disgusting.”

“Never, ever did myself or anyone that matters care or discuss Debi Mazar’s body,” Ellin wrote. “I would one million percent embrace any woman who got pregnant.”

Ellin acknowledged that he did give physical appearance input regarding two male cast members. He said he wanted Adrian Grenier, who played Vincent Chase, to be more muscular, while he wanted Jerry Ferrara, who played Turtle, to gain weight.

“I will forever feel bad about that because I didn’t realize the health implications at the time,” Ellin wrote, adding that he is now happy with Ferrara’s transformation.

Mazar has previously spoken about aspects of her experience on Entourage. In a 2020 interview, she said she enjoyed playing Shauna but was sometimes embarrassed by the character’s dialogue and profanity.

Ellin has also publicly defended Entourage in the past. In 2023, he criticized a satirical article suggesting HBO had ordered changes to the series to bring it in line with modern standards, calling its author a “revisionist hack.”

Entourage, which premiered in 2004, ran for eight seasons and followed a young Hollywood actor and his friends as they navigated the entertainment industry.
