Tiger Woods Loses Driver’s License for Five Years in DUI Plea Deal

Tiger Woods will lose his driver’s license for five years after reaching a plea agreement in his Florida DUI case.

The 50-year-old golf star appeared in Martin County Courthouse in Stuart on Wednesday, where prosecutors agreed to reduce the DUI charge to reckless driving. Woods also pleaded no contest to a charge of refusing to submit to a lawful chemical test.

A judge fined Woods $1,000 for reckless driving and $500 for refusing the test. Both five-year driving bans will run concurrently.

“If you drive for any reason at all, you will be going back to jail,” the judge warned Woods.

Woods was accompanied by his attorney, Douglas Duncan, and his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump. He signed the plea agreement during the brief hearing.

The state attorney later said the case was difficult to prosecute because there was insufficient evidence to prove Woods was impaired. Authorities said Woods had admitted taking several prescription medications before his arrest but refused to provide a urine sample.

Woods was arrested on March 27 after his Land Rover crashed near his Jupiter Island home. Deputies said he failed field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment, including bloodshot and glassy eyes and slow movement. He denied drinking alcohol, and a breath test found no alcohol in his system.

Deputies found two pills on Woods that were later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid pain medication. His vehicle struck a truck towing a pressure-washer trailer, causing about $5,000 in damage.

The incident was Woods’ second DUI arrest and the fourth major car-related incident of his career.

Four days after his arrest, Woods announced that he was seeking treatment and taking time away from public life to focus on his health and recovery. He subsequently spent nearly three months in rehabilitation in Switzerland.

Woods has gradually returned to public appearances since completing treatment, although his recent appearance has drawn concern from some fans about his health.
