Tiger Woods Takes Plea Deal in DUI Case With Vanessa Trump by His Side

Tiger Woods changed his plea in his DUI case on Wednesday, Sept. 2, appearing in a Florida courtroom with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump.

The 50-year-old golfer arrived at the Martin County courthouse in Stuart wearing a navy suit and blue tie. Trump, 48, accompanied him in a navy dress and white blazer.

Woods changed his plea from not guilty to no contest after prosecutors reduced the charges. One DUI-related charge was amended to reckless driving, while the second was reduced to a careless driving citation, according to court records and Fox News.

Under the plea deal, Woods will have his driver’s license suspended for five years and must pay a $1,000 fine.

The case stems from a March 27 crash near Woods’ home in Jupiter Island, Florida. His Land Rover rolled over after he allegedly overtook a truck towing a pressure-cleaning trailer.

According to court documents, deputies found hydrocodone pills in Woods’ possession and reported signs of impairment, including bloodshot, glassy eyes and extremely dilated pupils. He was arrested and initially charged with DUI, causing property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful urine test.

Woods pleaded not guilty on March 31. His attorney, Doug Duncan, filed a motion Tuesday, Sept. 1, asking the court to change the plea.

Woods has also faced legal trouble involving impaired driving in the past. In 2017, he was arrested on a DUI charge after being found asleep behind the wheel. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving. In 2009, he received a careless driving citation after crashing into a tree near his home.

Woods has also been undergoing treatment at an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Zurich, Switzerland. He briefly returned to the U.S. in May to support Trump during her breast cancer treatment, according to sources cited by PEOPLE.
