Sheriff says investigators remain hopeful in Nancy Guthrie abduction case

The sheriff leading the investigation into the abduction of Nancy Guthrie says he remains confident the case will be solved, nearly six months after the 84-year-old was taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC that investigators are still working through a large amount of evidence, including DNA and video footage.

"We have so much DNA to sort through. We have so much in terms of video evidence to look at," Nanos said. "I'm still positive that we're gonna resolve this case."

Nancy Guthrie disappeared on 1 February. The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI have been investigating since then, but no suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators previously released doorbell camera footage showing a masked person entering her property in the early hours of the morning.

On Monday, Nancy's daughter, Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, shared an emotional video on Instagram appealing directly to those responsible. She urged them to "make the right choice" by revealing where her mother is, saying it is "never too late to do the right thing."

Today correspondent Erin McLaughlin said it was unclear why Savannah released the message now, but noted it could be linked to a new line of communication in the investigation.

Savannah is currently away from Today while filming NBC's upcoming Wordle game show, which is expected to air next year. Her absence, along with co-host Craig Melvin's planned holiday, is being covered by Sheinelle Jones and Hallie Jackson.
