Tobin announced the birth on the July 23 episode of The LadyGang podcast, which she recorded from the hospital. She shared that their surrogate, Katie, was induced on July 19 after developing preeclampsia. Meyer was born at 7:24 a.m., weighing 5 pounds, 9 ounces, about 5½ weeks before her August 26 due date.
Because she arrived early, Meyer is expected to spend two to six weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Tobin said the baby is doing well and that a feeding tube is normal for premature infants while they develop swallowing skills.
Tobin also described taking part in the delivery after a medical provider invited her to help bring the baby into the world. She said Meyer was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck twice but was healthy.
The couple chose the name Meyer in honor of Tobin’s great-grandfather, while June is a tribute to her late grandmother.
Meyer joins the couple’s 4-year-old son, Rutherford “Ford” Thomas Martin, who was also born via surrogate. Tobin has previously spoken publicly about experiencing two miscarriages before pursuing in vitro fertilization.
