Erin Moriarty Says The Boys Team Worked With Doctors During Graves’ Disease Diagnosis

Erin Moriarty says the production team behind The Boys worked directly with her doctors while she struggled with an undiagnosed illness that was later identified as Graves’ disease.

Speaking on the MeSsy podcast, the 32-year-old actress said she began experiencing severe fatigue, oversleeping, and numbness in her hands and feet. After blood tests showed something was wrong, she spent six to eight weeks undergoing medical tests before receiving a diagnosis in 2025.

As her condition worsened, Moriarty said she gave the show's producers permission to communicate directly with her doctors because she was too sick to manage updates herself.

"I was struggling to make phone calls, articulate myself. Everything sounded nonlinear. I was not cognitively present," she said.

Moriarty said the illness affected her performance during the final season of The Boys, adding that some parts of her character could not be fully developed because of her health. She said she felt fully present again by the time the season finale was filmed after starting treatment.

She described the improvement as immediate, saying she felt "brought back to life" the day after taking her medication.

Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the thyroid to produce too much hormone. Symptoms can include fatigue, irritability, weight loss, hand tremors, and other health problems. Moriarty publicly revealed her diagnosis in June 2025.
