Jesse Eisenberg Says He Doesn't Want to Be Linked to Zuckerberg Anymore

Jesse Eisenberg said he no longer wants to be associated with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whom he portrayed in the 2010 film The Social Network.

Speaking at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) on Saturday, Eisenberg said Zuckerberg was not well known when the movie was made, and he approached the role simply as an interesting character. Now, he said, he does not want to return for a new film because he dislikes being linked to Zuckerberg.

"I see that the person who created this website is not a person who cares about people," Eisenberg said. "If this guy is the creator of this world, I don't want to live in that world."

Eisenberg also explained why he avoids social media, saying he finds it uncomfortable to publicly share details of his personal life.

During the audience discussion, he reflected on two experiences he described as life-changing: taking LSD once and becoming a parent, calling the latter one of the most meaningful moments of his life.

The appearance capped a busy day at KVIFF, where Eisenberg received the festival's President's Award before a screening of The Double. He also discussed his upcoming film The Debut, which he wrote and directed. The A24 release, starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti, is scheduled to open this fall.
