Simmons returned as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), but explained that his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe happened unexpectedly. He said Marvel contacted him at the last minute while Far From Home was already being edited, and he filmed his cameo in an office because there was no set ready.
The Oscar-winning actor first played the outspoken Daily Bugle editor in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. He also recalled having to audition for the role in 2002 because studio executives wanted a more well-known actor.
Simmons added that he is currently not involved in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though fans remain skeptical given Marvel’s history of keeping casting secrets.
