Josh Grisetti’s Cause of Death Confirmed by Coroner

Broadway actor, educator, and author Josh Grisetti died by suicide on July 10 at the age of 44, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Coroner. The official cause of death was a gunshot wound. The autopsy also noted severe head injuries.

Grisetti’s death was confirmed on July 12 after fellow actors Rob McClure and Sierra Boggess shared heartfelt tributes on social media, remembering him as a kind, talented, and inspiring friend.

He was known for his role as Ralph Emerson in the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. His stage career included performances in Something Rotten!, It Shoulda Been You, Rent, Peter and the Starcatcher, and many other Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional productions. He also wrote the book God in My Head.

Alongside acting, Grisetti dedicated much of his career to teaching. He led the Musical Theatre program at California State University, Fullerton, and previously taught at Fullerton College and Loyola Marymount University.

His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and support his wife, Mackenzie Grisetti, and their family. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Entertainment Community Fund, which provides financial assistance and confidential mental health services for people working in the entertainment industry.
