Kelly Ripa Recovering After Gum Graft Surgery, Mark Consuelos Says

Kelly Ripa is recovering after undergoing gum graft surgery, forcing her to temporarily step away from Live with Kelly and Mark.

During Monday's episode, co-host Mark Consuelos told viewers that Ripa is recovering well but has been instructed by her dentist not to speak while she heals.

Consuelos said Ripa had been advised to have the procedure several years ago but only recently went ahead with it. Gum graft surgery is commonly used to treat receding gums by covering exposed tooth roots, helping reduce sensitivity and prevent further gum damage.

He said Ripa is following strict recovery instructions, including eating soft foods, avoiding straws and leaving the surgical area undisturbed. Despite the discomfort, Consuelos joked that Ripa still asked him to check how the graft was healing.

Although he described the recovery as painful, Consuelos noted that Ripa usually has a high tolerance for pain and even avoids local anaesthetic during routine dental visits, making this procedure particularly challenging.

Kevin Jonas joined Monday's show as guest co-host and will return on Tuesday. Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon and Scott Foley are scheduled to guest host later in the week while Ripa continues her recovery.
