Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Widow Appears to Address Family Rift Ahead of Estate Battle

Tenisha Warner, the widow of late actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, appeared to suggest distance from her mother-in-law, Pamela Warner, during a CBS Mornings interview recorded before a legal dispute over the actor's estate became public.

When co-host Gayle King asked whether she remained close to Pamela, Tenisha avoided directly answering, saying her priority has been caring for the couple's 9-year-old daughter while grieving. She said her limited emotional energy is focused first on her daughter and then on herself.

After the interview preview aired, King said neither she nor the CBS Mornings team knew Tenisha had filed lawsuits against Pamela, who serves as trustee of the Warner Family Trust. King said she had asked about the relationship only because Pamela had previously spoken publicly about her son's death.

Court filings made public this week show Tenisha is seeking more than $1.2 million from the trust. She alleges Malcolm-Jamal Warner failed to obtain a $1 million life insurance policy required under their 2022 prenuptial agreement and is also seeking payments she claims are owed under the agreement, compensation for work as his chief of staff, interest, attorney's fees, and an order preventing trust assets from being distributed while the case is pending.

In a statement, Tenisha said she tried to resolve the estate privately but filed the lawsuits to protect her and her daughter's rights before legal deadlines expired. She also said Warner had intended to update his estate plan before his death.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for playing Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died in an accidental drowning in Costa Rica on July 20, 2025, at age 54. Tenisha's full interview airs July 23 on CBS Mornings.
