When asked which movie he wished he had been in, Damon chose The Matrix. He called it an extraordinary film and praised Keanu Reeves’ performance. Damon was surprised when Holland admitted he had never seen the 1999 sci-fi classic.
Instead of criticizing him, Damon said he was jealous that Holland would get to watch it for the first time. He also wondered if the film would still feel as groundbreaking today because so many movies have been inspired by it.
Holland said the movie he wished he had starred in was Primal Fear. He praised Edward Norton’s performance and said he would have loved to play that role.
Damon then revealed that Primal Fear inspired him and Ben Affleck to write Good Will Hunting. After losing out on the role to Norton, they decided to create their own opportunity by writing a script, which later won them the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
