Molly Ringwald Reacts to Ryan Gosling's 'Moppy Ringwald' Story

Molly Ringwald says she was "very flattered" after learning that Ryan Gosling used an emotional support mop named "Moppy Ringwald" while filming the sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary.

Speaking on the season 29 finale of The View, Ringwald joked, "I've always wanted to work with Ryan Gosling, so, I guess I kind of got my chance."

Gosling recently told PEOPLE that he struggled with the film's long scenes in which his character was alone in space. He said the crew made a mop dressed with glasses and a dress, calling it "Moppy Ringwald" to keep him company. Gosling said he spent the day "dancing and singing and crying" with the mop, adding that it helped him get through filming.

He also praised directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for supporting him and allowing the crew to create the unusual companion.

Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir's novel, has earned nearly $685 million worldwide and is expected to receive multiple Oscar nominations. Ringwald appeared on The View to promote her upcoming film One Night Only, which opens in theaters on Aug. 7.
